A Special Thank You to the National Weather Service

(May 26, 2011) Deputy Secretary Rebecca Blank thanks the employees of the National Weather Service for their lifesaving work during the recent tornadoes on behalf of Secretary Locke and the entire Congress. She calls the forecasting achievements of Weather Forecast Offices “nothing short of astounding” for sounding the warning at the above average 24 minute lead time. This lead time followed the Storm Prediction Center watches issued hours in advance of the severe weather.
