Dr. Louis Uccellini is pegged as the Director of the National Weather Service
(February 7, 2013) A well-respected weather service leader is now at the head of the organization. Dr. Louis Uccellini, former Director of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) is named the new Director of the National Weather Service.
“We know Dr. Uccellini well and have always had a good working relationship with him,” said NWSEO President Dan Sobien. “We are hoping that this appointment will bring new leadership that will end the culture of austerity in the National Weather Service.”
Prior to leading NCEP, Dr. Uccellini has served as the Director of the NWS Office of Meteorology, Chief of the NWS Meteorological Operations Division, and Section Head for Mesoscale Analysis and Modeling Section in the Goddard Space Flight Center’s Laboratory for Atmospheres. He received his Ph. D., Masters, and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
