How to Join NWSEO
Membership dues for NWSEO may be paid by payroll deduction, check or credit card.
The current dues for payroll deduction is only one percent of your salary to a maximum per pay period amount of $21.58. The rate increases each year in accordance with the OPM's salary rate increases for the rest of the U.S.
Employees who wish to join NWSEO through Payroll Deduction may fill out a Standard Form 1187 and provide the necessary information in boxes 1, 4, and 5, then sign and date the form at the bottom. The form may be faxed to NWSEO at 202-600-2145 or mailed to the NWSEO address below.
Another option for paying dues is to use the on-line credit card application. Your credit card charged $46.77 per month on a subscription basis and you no longer have to worry about renewals. (Please note: Do not increase the quantity when using the store. It does not pay for additional months, it only purchases additional memberships and the increased amount will be charged each month.)
If you prefer, you have the option to pay dues with a check or the credit card for an entire year or every six months. Annual dues is one percent of your base pay up to $567.23 and a half year is the same up to $280.62.
Instructions for requesting to start or stop a payroll deduction can be found in the Memorandum of Understanding with NOAA.
Employees may also pay their dues directly to NWSEO by writing a check made out to "NWSEO" and mailing it to NWSEO at:

What NWSEO Membership Means for You
The NWSEO works hard to improve working conditions and the quality of NWS services. Members are afforded assistance whenever employment issues arise and have excess to the NWSEO general counsel. In addition, members are kept informed of significant events affecting NWS employees through the NWSEO publication “Four Winds” which you would receive.
The diligent work of the NWSEO produced these top five recent accomplishments:
- Saving the CWSUs from consolidation – a culmination of a five year lobbying effort by NWSEO to preserve both aviation safety and NWS employee jobs. NWSEO spent over $200,000 in this lobbying effort and obtained the support of the Senate Commerce Committee, the House Science Committee and the House and Senate Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations Subcommittees
- Securing back pay for overtime for nearly 200 NWS employees. Securing FLSA Non-Exempt status of an additional 165 NWS employees. The NWS has agreed to pay two years’ lost overtime wages and liquidated damages for those employees, as well.
- Winning an appeal to bargain to increase staffing at Anchorage WFO by 10 positions - this directs the National Weather Service to bargain with NWSEO over a proposal that would increase staffing at the Anchorage WFO by ten positions.
- Securing special projects designed to increase aviation safety, which include increased NWS personnel at the CWSU and WFOs in New York City, Atlanta, and Chicago.
- Informed NOAA about unfair pay practices for ASAs. NOAA is now in the process of performing an informal desk audit to identify the possibility of pay raises for ASAs doing higher level tasks.
